CLASSES FOR CHILDREN WITH ATTENTION DEFICIT HYPERACTIVITY DISORDER (ADHD) AND THEIR PARENTS

These classes are offered once a week for 8 weeks. There are four 8-week sessions throughout the year. The classes are for children with ADHD and their parents. The children's class meets for the first hour and the parents' class meets for the second hour. Childcare is provided for the children while the parents are in class.

The parent classes cover the following topics: understanding ADHD, research based techniques for managing the behaviors of the child with ADHD, managing the child's school and homework problems, and understanding public school law as it relates to ADHD.

The children's classes cover the following topics: self-monitoring of behaviors, expressing feelings appropriately, evaluating problem behaviors and developing alternatives, sharing and cooperating, managing anger and frustration

The classes are instructed by Jane Krumm, pictured above. Jane is a clinical social worker with extensive experience working both in the public schools and in private practice with families who have children with behavior problems.

PARENT CLASSES IN READING INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNIQUES

These classes coincide with the Reading and Written Language Intervention classes for children. They are offered twice each session for one hour.  The classes cover the concepts that are taught in the LANGUAGE! Curriculum Unit by Unit. Parents are provided with strategies for working at home with their child on those concepts. The classes are taught by Mary Michener, pictured above. Mary is a speech language pathologist with over 30 years of experience in working with students with language and reading problems.  She brings not only her expertise in language to these classes, but also an in-depth knowledge of the Curriculum.
